Biography

With over forty years of experience in mining engineering, Paul Gauthier has dedicated most of his career to mining operations in Quebec, Ontario, and the Northwest Territories. A graduate in mining engineering from Université Laval, he has held technical leadership and management positions with major mining companies such as Gaspé Copper, Audrey Mobrun, Barrick Gold (Bousquet 1, Bousquet 2, and Meikle), Xstrata Sudbury Nickel Operations (Fraser, Craig, Onaping Depth), De Beers (Victor), and Stornoway Diamonds (Renard).

 

Over the decades, Paul has led numerous feasibility studies for projects of varying sizes and complexities. A recognized expert in open-pit mine design, he is proficient in Whittle® tools and Lerchs-Grossman algorithms for pit optimization, economic perimeter selection, and mine volume planning. He also has extensive experience in underground bulk mining and strategic production planning.

 

His expertise covers a wide range of commodities, including gold, diamonds, copper, zinc, and nickel. His background has allowed him to collaborate on major projects in North America, Latin America, and elsewhere in the world, including mineral reserve and resource audits, underground ore transportation studies, and economic evaluations of complex projects.

 

Recent experience

Before joining CCE Mining as a Senior Mining Engineer, Paul held the position of Senior Mining Principal at WSP-Golder, where he contributed to several feasibility studies and evaluations of mining projects across Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Chile. He also served as Chief Mining Engineer for Stornoway Diamonds, De Beers Canada, and Barrick Gold, where he led mine design, long-term planning, and optimization of mining methods.
